I hope this message finds you well. My name is Zhiguang, and I am honored to be part of your Critical Thinking module. I am particularly drawn to this module because I believe it will not only enhance my English proficiency but also help me express myself more effectively in my future career.
I graduated in 2022 with a diploma in BCA Construction Engineering. Although my GPA was modest, I initially chose to pursue architecture under the influence of my parents. However, I am deeply grateful to SIT for allowing me to rechallenge myself. Here, I have met many interesting and inspiring peers who have reignited my passion for learning. By overcoming various challenges, I have been able to continuously improve myself. It is this process of self-improvement and pushing beyond my limits that has made me fall in love with learning.
One of my strengths is my ability to communicate effectively with others. I respect and value everyone I interact with, as I believe every person I meet has a meaningful purpose in my life. Whether I am learning from their strengths or their weaknesses, I find that every interaction offers valuable lessons. This ongoing process of learning and evolving into a better version of myself is something I truly enjoy.
One of my weaknesses is my tendency to approach challenges by anticipating the worst-case scenario. While this helps me manage expectations and stay grounded, it can sometimes prevent me from fully embracing opportunities or taking risks. I am actively working to overcome this by striving to balance realistic expectations with a more optimistic outlook. I believe this shift will help me grow both personally and professionally.
For this module, I have two specific goals. First, I hope to build more confidence in expressing my ideas during class discussions and feel more comfortable sharing my perspectives. Second, I aim to learn how to think more critically and approach problems from multiple angles, enabling me to tackle future challenges more effectively and comprehensively.
What sets me apart from others is my enjoyment of problem-solving, coupled with my emphasis on achieving meaningful results. In pursuing my goals, I work diligently and actively seek solutions, as growth and transformation often stem from facing and overcoming challenges.
Thank you very much for taking the time to read my email. I look forward to achieving my learning objectives and gaining further inspiration and growth through your module.
Best regards,
Zhiguang

ReplyDeleteDear Zhiguang,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your letter. Overall, I think it was a well-written email, however, I do have a couple of suggestions that could further improve your letter.
For starters, clarify the purpose of the email at the beginning, indicating that it is an introduction so that it can set the context of the email and ensures reader can interpret the rest of the email with clarity and focus.
Additionally, in the context of language use, it might be better to change "Although my GPA was not particularly outstanding" to "Although my GPA was modest", as it has a better professional and formal tone.
All the best to you as you overcome your challenges, I hope you find my suggestions helpful.
Regards,
Royston Lee
Dear Zhiguang,
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your well-thought-out and reflective introduction. It was a pleasure reading about your journey and aspirations, and it’s clear that you possess a strong sense of self-awareness and a genuine passion for learning—qualities that will serve you well in this module.
I found your emphasis on problem-solving particularly compelling. Your enthusiasm for tackling challenges and finding meaningful solutions is a valuable strength. Including a specific example of a problem you’ve successfully overcome could add more depth to your introduction and highlight this quality further.
Your goal of approaching problems from multiple perspectives is especially admirable. This skill is central to the objectives of our Critical Thinking module, and your proactive mindset will undoubtedly help you make the most of this learning opportunity.
I also appreciate your openness in reflecting on your weakness, especially your tendency to anticipate worst-case scenarios. It’s a relatable trait, and I commend your efforts to address it. Since this module focuses heavily on communication, it might also be worth exploring specific areas in communication that you’d like to improve, such as presenting ideas or participating in discussions.
Overall, your letter effectively conveys your passion for growth and self-improvement. I look forward to seeing how you develop your critical thinking and communication skills as you progress through the module.

Dear Zhiguang,
ReplyDeleteThank you for this effective and interesting letter, which not only addresses all the points of the brief but also tells us quite a bit about who you are. I enjoyed learning about how your study in civil engineering at SIT has come about. You also share how in CVE you have "met many interesting and inspiring peers who have reignited my passion for learning," and it's evident this has been a motivation for you.
You also share something about your comm skills levels and discuss how interacting with others provides "meaningful purpose in my life." That positivity will come in handy when you do group tasks in our class, when you get into the project work and as you go forward in both your studies and work life. :)
I look forward to learning more about you this term.
Best wishes,
Brad
